Boat Face-(adj.) A facial expression most commonly associated with the joy of sailing. Often seen on young adults, children, and old sea dogs.
In this edition of Key West Sailing Adventures we will learn about the “Boat Face”
Now flash back 47 years to 1964 where another young sailor had just taken the hem for the first time. We were on our maiden voyage for the J-birds IV, our home built 16ft cabin cruiser, when my Dad asked me to “take the helm”. Wow! I am driving a boat, I thought out loud. I am sure my face had the same expression as Arik’s did. It is universal. Its magic and most of all it is real.
Over the years, especially in here in Key West, we have been blessed by many instances of “boat face”. Whether its a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary or another young sailor like Arik, “boat face” always shows up in Trish’s photos. If we could all pause from the fuss and worry of everyday life and share day sailing with the ones we love then perhaps the next day might bring about a little less frowns and little more “boat face”. So whether its one of many Key West sailing adventures, or some time in your own familiar waters, may your joys be many and your worries few.
