Below is a screenshot of an actual trip accounting page. This is all pretty confusing to me, and I’ve spent a significant amount of time studying this and many other traveler charges. I think they purposely make it confusing.
It looks to me like the person paid $194 to the company for fees and insurance and a refundable $175 damage deposit. Why would you need both if your host (me) has property insurance in case something big happens? You shouldn’t; it’s just another way to get your money.
Maybe you DON’T know us and feel that $194 is a small price to pay to have a large corporation looking out for you. We understand. Go ahead and book us through Airbnb or VRBO the first time. I’d rather spend my $194 on vacation fun, but when you come back, you’ll know us and you can save some money.
