The Atlantic Ocean was a lumpy, bumpy, soupy mess with visibility of about eight inches, and Ruth and Ray really wanted to snorkel while in Key West. There was only one solution: We had to take them to our secret spot. It’s only minutes from Key West, but it is undiscovered and off the beaten path. Shhhhh! Don’t breathe a word.
Right away we spotted a Porkfish lurking around a black ball sponge.
Next, Ray spotted a Barrel Sponge. Sponges are essential for a healthy reef ecosystem.
Ruth was keeping a sharp eye out for lobsters.
After a couple of hours in the water, our time was almost up, but Ray dove down for one last look…
…and was rewarded with the most beautiful “flower” on the reef, a giant Condylactus Anemone (Condylactus Gigantus).
Can you keep a secret? Shhhhhh!
